KidKanevil Live (First Word Records) @ The Acorn Theatre - May 16th
Twenty five year old sonic visionary KidKanevil has been touted as the new Dj Shadow, no pressure there then!
His stunning debut LP 'Problems & Solutions' released last year, managed to combine sublime hip hop with sultry soul music, gaining incredible praise from the likes of Mr Scruff, Dj Vadim and Bonobo.
Whilst heavily influenced by US producers such as J Dilla (Slum Village) and Questlove (The Roots), kidk's style remains unique. With hip-hop as his starting point, he seems to have the ability to effortlessly weave in elements of soul, jazz, and funk, and some truly beautiful soundtrack scenarios more akin to The Cinematic Orchestra.
The live show features the Kid on decks and effects, Testament with vocals and beatbox, add to that flutes, sax, a percussion section, and you have a band that can deliver on any level.
Support comes from the talented 'Beatech Collective', who are showcasing some new material.
